Migration

In the video, I think it addressed a lot of misconceptions of migration. I sometimes think people in the US forget that the US was built by the Native Americans and a whole bunch of immigrants. So do we ever think about what the current immigrants go through?

Why do people come here? Why do people migrate to any area? It is definitely something that we need to think about. We get caught up in our everyday lives and sometimes think we own this country.

Somethings that the movie talked about was the culture shock for the immigrants. They had their own culture before they came and who are we to say they have to forget it and completely conform in order to live here? So the culture shock is a very important aspect.

The food, language, laws, and personal hygiene are all basic things that are different for these people. These individuals are supposed to send their earnings home to their families in their home countries to help support them. Most of these individuals were afraid of losing or forgetting their home culture.

What do you think are reasons people migrate? School, safety, asylum, and work are just some of the reasons these people migrate. They have so many different reasons to migrate and so many different effects from migrating. Remember, it isn't just the person and the new community that is effected. There are people at home that are effected and multiple communities and sometimes countries.

The Johannesburg article was discussed in all of these areas (just specifically to Africa). However, what did you think about the article that was handed out in class?

Remember, next week you need to find a time to take your test. You must be at the China Presentation in the Teton Grill at 7:00. See you then!
